What are the nine special colours of sarees(Specially)  or Churidhar or any other clothing worn by women in india during Durga Navratri? The Tradition of 9 colours is very common in Gujarat, Maharashtra and some other North Indian states during Durga Navaratri puja. Here, I am providing few details on Navratri colours and the significance of the particular day.

Nine-day Navratri – Nine colours of Durga Navratri

1. First Day: Green colour is used. The Godess of first day in Navratri will be dressed in Green coloured saree. First Day of Durga Navaratri, 2010 –Kalasha Sthapana (Ghatasthapana) – Prathami Puja or Padyami Puja –Installation of earthen pot with grains (Specially Wheat) – Ashwin Shukla Padyami (Ashwin masa Shudda Prathami) –  8 October 2010.
2. Second Day: Grey colour is used. The Goddess of second day in Navratri will be dressed in Grey coloured saree. Second Day of Durga Navaratri, 2010 – Preethi Dwitiya (Preeti Vidiya) – Ashwin Shukla Dwitiya -   9 October 2010.
3. Third Day: Pink colour is used. The Goddess of third day in Navratri will be dressed in Pink coloured saree. Third Day of Durga Navaratri – Sthana Vriddhi Gauri Vrata – Ashwin Masa Shudda Tritiya (Aswayuja Shukla Thadiya) – 10 October 2010. – Sindhoor Tritiya. Sowbhagya Teej.
4. Fourth Day: White colour is used. The Goddess of fourth day in Navratri will be dressed in White coloured saree. Fourth Day of Durga Saran Navaratri, 2010 – Bhouma Chaturthi – Ashwin Masa Shudda Chaturthi (Ashwayuja Shukla Chavithi) – 11 October 2010.
5. Fifth Day: Red color is used. The Goddess of fifth day in Navratri will be dressed in Red coloured saree. Fifth Day of Durga Saran Navaratri, 2010 – Upang Lalitha Gauri Vrata (Sri Lalitha Panchami or Maha Panchami) – Ashwin Shudda Panchami – 12 October 2010.
6. Sixth Day: Blue colour is used. The Goddess of sixth day in Navratri will be dressed in Blue coloured saree. Sixth Day of Durga Navaratri 2010 – Maha Sashti – Ashwin Shudda Sashti – Ashwin Shudda Sashti – 13 October 2010.
7. Seventh Day: Yellow colour is used. The Goddess of seventh day in Navratri will be dressed in Yellow coloured saree. Seventh Day of Durga Saran Navaratri 2010 – Maha Saptami – Ashwin Shudda Saptami – Triratra Vrata Aarambha Utsava Puja (Trirathrotsavam) – 14 October 2010.
8. Eighth Day: Violet color is used. The Goddess of eighth day in Navratri will be dressed in Violet colored saree. Eighth Day of Durga Navaratri 2010 –Durga Ashtami (Maha Astami) Some people do Kanya Poojan (popularly known as Kanjak or kanjken )– Ashwin Shudda Astami – Sri Maha Durga Puja – Goddess Saraswati Mata Puja – 15 October 2010.
9. Ninth Day: Peacock Green color is used. The Goddess of ninth day in Navratri will be dressed in Peacock coloured saree. Ninth Day of Durga Navaratri 2010 – Maharnavami Puja (Maha Navami)  Some people do Kanya Poojan (popularly known as Kanjak or kanjken Depending on their family tradtion)– Suhasini Puja – Ayudha Puja – Kanya Puja or Kumari Puja – Ashwin Shudda Navami – 16 October 2010.
10. Tenth Day: Every year for Vijayadashami celebrations Red colour is used. TheGoddess of tenth day in Navratri will be dressed in Red coloured saree. Tenth Day of Durga Navaratri, 2010 – Vijaya Dashami (Dussera / Dasara / Dussehra) – Mahishasura Vadha – Ashwin Shudda Dashami – 17 October 2010.
